A really tight little combo with plenty of jazzy influences, best known for their backing of James Moody on the Teachers album for Perception! The record's a great blend of styles – funky jazz, progressive rock, and lots of other trippy sounds that show up in the production of the album, and some of the longer jamming solos – and there's a great genre-crossing feel to the whole set, very much in the best .

A rare Jubilee Records album from Art Blakey – one of his non-Blue Note sets from the late 50s, cut during the year of – a time when the Jazz Messengers were hopping around a lot of different labels! This version of the group is searing and soulful – and features Johnny Griffin on tenor, Bill Hardman on trumpet, Sam Dockery on piano, and Spanky DeBrest on bass – plus the unusual.

This album is actually a combination of two albums: "James Moody's Greatest Hits," and "More of James Moody's Greatest Hits." For those of you who don't know, the title may seem a bit misleading. While each track is a "hit" in that it is great, this album is not at all a "best of" compilation.5/5(4).
